A junior member of Premier Doug Ford’s tour team has tested positive for COVID-19, his office announced Thursday morning.
“The premier did not have any close contact or prolonged exposure with this staff member,” the statement said. “All staff that had contact with their teammate will self-isolate and monitor for symptoms.
“The premier will closely monitor for symptoms and take appropriate next steps if necessary.”
Members of tour teams are involved when the premier goes on the road, as he did Wednesday when he travelled to Huntsville to announce a pharmacy COVID-19 testing regime.
Ford took a COVID-19 test in June — the result was negative — after it was learned that Education Minister Stephen Lecce had been in contact with someone who had the illness.
Lecce also tested negative at the time.
Ford attended a Toronto convention in March where one of the province’s first known COVID-19 cases was identified but did not become ill.
